Recently I got the chance to work with David over at Sixth Day Soccer as he was creating a new website and wanted a new logo to go along with it. David had decided he wanted something that was simple and flat, but also something different from the normal type of soccer logo (podcasts, blogs) that's out there. We decided to make it less about soccer and just more about the name. The only real inclusion of soccer we used was the old school 'volleyball' style ball, and to an extent, the date.
I designed this mainly using different shades of green and an off white kind of trying to keep in line with the soccer pitch. So far, Sixth Day Soccer is using a monotone black or white logo on the new website (see below), which looks great (especially the white) overlaid onto old school soccer photos on the site's main page.
We went through a lot of ideas, from the simple flat design that we settled on, all the way through to some pretty abstract ideas, but in the end, I feel like we got the perfect fit for what David and Sixth Day Soccer stands for.
Head over to Sixth Day and check out some of their content! The blog mostly focuses on the local clubs, FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, etc, but also on MLS, International Soccer, and European Club Soccer. I will warn you, as a Tottenham supporter, David is a Gooner, so you may see an article or two about Arsenal on the blog!
